Frequently asked questions

What conditions can be treated?

Skin rejuvenation is the treatment of sun damaged skin. It is used to boost the skins complexion, even out skin tone, tightening pores, smooth out the skins texture and give a collagen boost within the skin.
Also known as a photo facial, this is an excellent treatment to reverse the signs of ageing.
It gives you a little bit of each treatment in one.

Pigmentation therapy is the treatment of skin that has an uneven skin tone due to age spots, sun spots and hyperpigmentation. This treatment fades and removes the excess pigmentation, restoring the skin to an even and clearer tone. This treatment will also refresh the complexion as well as provide a collagen boost.

Pigmentation Therapy

Pigmentation therapy is the treatment of skin that has an uneven skin tone due to age spots, sun spots and hyperpigmentation. This treatment fades and removes the excess pigmentation, restoring the skin to an even and clearer tone. This treatment will also refresh the complexion as well as provide a collagen boost.

How does it work?
The heat from the light is attracted to the melanin/oxy-haemoglobin in the blood. The heat reaction breaks down the melanin and coagulates the blood within the area. This then leaves the body through the lymphatic system leaving the skin with a clearer complexion. In a nut shell, it breaks down dark areas on your skin and you pee it out.

Wrinkle Therapy

Wrinkle therapy is the treatment that gives the maximum collagen boost to push out even the deepest lying wrinkles.

How does it work?
Heat that is created in the dermis and epidermis makes the skin react as if it has been injured. Blood and collagen then rush to this area to repair it leaving your skin soft, smooth and plump.

Acne Treatment

IPL acne treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses modern technology to target and destroy the bacteria that cause acne, as well as reducing inflammation, redness and promoting the healing of acne-damaged skin.

This can be life changing for many people however, unfortunately it won’t improve old acne scars, for this you will need an abrasive laser which is a service we don’t currently provide.

Does it hurt?

The sensation that is felt will vary from client to client. It will depend on you as an individual and the amount of melanin found in the skin. It is described as a heat sensation and some clients say it’s like a mild sunburn after the treatment.
Skin rejuvenation and wrinkle therapy will cause redness of the skin initially after the treatment. This is a good sign that the treatment has worked and that sufficient heat has been pushed into the skin.

Pigmentation treatments will initially turn darker after the treatment then a crusting will appear on the skin. This must be left to shed naturally and can take up to 10 days after the treatment. The skin will then appear more even and the pigmented lesions will be lighter in colour.

How many sessions are needed?

On average 1-6 treatments at 4-week intervals are needed for the best results. Top up treatments may be needed in future to maintain these results.

Important

Results will vary from person to person.

Always follow pre and post treatment advice giving by us. Lasers are powerful tools and complications can sometimes arise such as hypo/hyper pigmentation and in extreme cases burns. The most common reasons for adverse reactions are sun exposure, photosensitive medication and topical creams. Smooth Clinic will always be on hand to help and advice should any adverse reactions occur.

You must inform us if any of your medication or skin changes during treatment. You must avoid sun exposure and wear an SPF minimum 30 before and during the course of treatment. We will not continue to treat anyone who has not followed the rules set out in the consultation forms.

Please be aware that we will not refund block bookings and may still charge for missed appointments due to rule breaks.
